Market checking on Ramdhan: Rs 10900 fine charged from erring traders | KNO

POONCH MAY 17 (KNO) : Joint teams of enforcement agencies conducted massive market inspection across this border district to check overcharging and quality of food on the eve of Ramdhan, here today.

The drive was conducted in all the tehsils and Rs 10900 was realised from the erring traders. Rotten eatables including vegetables, fruit, milk and milk products were destroyed during the drive. The fine realised included Rs 2000 at tehsil Haveli, Rs 4800 at Mendhar, Rs 2300 at Balakote and Rs 1500 at Mandi.

The market checking drives were conducted by team of officials drawn from Food, Civil supplies and Consumer Affairs, Revenue, Legal Metrology and Police. The drive aimed to provide quality eatables to the customers especially in the month of Ramadan and also to check overcharging by the shopkeepers. Earlier, legal notices were served upon some encroachers to remove encroachments on their own.

Moreover the Legal Metrology Department also imposed fine of Rs 2000 on 6 traders for not adhering to certain norms. District administration is taking stringent measures to ensure the quality of edible items at affordable prices to people and decided to act tough against overcharging or violating hygiene standards by traders.
